Our Father's Favorites
12 really good old hymns

For many years, Mark has wanted to record a record of older hymns.   As a young boy, he sang these old songs over and over in church.  His Father would play his guitar and sing them at home as well.  He's been planning a recording project for the last couple of years.

In October of 2006, he and his oldest friend David "Sky" Sonkowsky met in the wilderness of Eastern Tennessee to go camping and spend some time together  after the loss of David's only son Dan.  It was a magnificent time of fellowship and healing.  For almost a week, Dave, Mark and Tyler (Mark's Son) and the Smith Family's dogs enjoyed the wonders and beauty of the Smokie Mountains..

One night they were sitting around the campfire, playing their guitars and talking about old times.  They began to sing some of the songs they sang as teens in church.

Later that evening,  a mighty wind began to blow from over the mountains.  The embers in the fire glowed brighter and the wind blowing through the trees made a musical sound as if they were stringed instruments being played by the hand of God.  The idea for this CD was birthed at that moment and Mark and David continued to play their guitars into the night.  The Holy Spirit was very much present and at times it felt as if their earthly fathers were there with them too.

Both of them decided that night to schedule a time together for the purpose of going into the studio to record some of the songs that their dads played for them when they were young boys.  It would not only be a project honoring their Heavenly Father, but a memorial for their earthly dads as well.

In December of 2006, they  got together in Saint Augustine, Florida to record the CD.   It was  early in the morning and they stayed up late the night before choosing the final songs and working on the vocal and guitar arrangements.  They wanted to create a sound something like what their father's would have gotten had they recorded in the 1950's.  A sound that was pure and authentic with a touch of nostalgia. We think they accomplished what they were after.

Our prayer is that this small collection of  hymns from our past will be a blessing to your heart.  May it rekindle wonderful memories of times with God and family and friends.
